About UsHistoryElmwood Church is an independant evangelical church made up of Christians from a wide variety of backgrounds. We started as a Railway Mission in 1889, in a tin hut on Wellington Road, Eccles. It was opened by Sir Richard Moon, Chairman of the London and North Western Railway. As the church grew, we moved to a building on Half Edge Lane and became Eccles Evangelical Church. Over time our fellowship outgrew this building and so in 1987 we moved to the current, purpose-built facility on Eccles Old Road. As the new building now lay outside the Eccles boundary, we decided to change name to Elmwood Church. What we doAt Elmwood we want to see our lives mirror that of Christ Jesus. Through meeting together on Sundays and during the week in home groups we aim to grow into a deeper relationship with Jesus, and with each other. We want to see non-Christians become committed followers of Christ and join in worship of the Lord Jesus, to become an active part of the church and grow in a deepening relationship with Christ. We want to be a resource for the community we are in, and there are many activities regularly during the week, including Toddlers, Junction (7-11's), n:counter (11-14's) and Impact (15-18's) and the Tuesday Lunch Club that aim to meet the needs of our local community. There are also a number of other events that happen on a semi-regular basis and are aimed at addressing specific needs, for example the Moneywise course is a 3-week course run by finance specialists on how to manage money and take control of our own finances. We also run Care for the Family and Stewardship courses from time to time on parenting, relationships and money matters.
