On each Sunday on the run up to Christmas we light a candle. This Sunday we lit the second advent candle - the candle of peace.
Sometimes, peace can feel hard to find. There is so much conflict in our world at this time; and with that comes much suffering and pain. Even closer to home we can long for peace and calm in our families and homes. It’s easy to sometimes feel overwhelmed.
The message of Christmas reminds us that Jesus will be our peace; the one we can rely on when all around us may feel uncertain.
Lets also remember that peace doesn’t depend on everything around us being perfect. We put so much pressure on ourselves at this time of year for everything to be perfect.
We can find peace in the small— in kindness, in listening, in choosing grace, in caring for one another.
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9
This season, may we be people who carry His peace into the places that feel divided or hurting. And may His presence steady our hearts when the world feels anything but peaceful.
